The giant glacier: Perito Moreno

Perito Moreno is a gigantic glacier near El Calafate in the Los Glaciares National Park in  Argentina.ImageLast week we took a day trip from Puerto Natales, Chile to Argentina to take a look at this magnificent glacier.ImageImageImageWe took a ferry ride in the park to get close to the glacier.  We even saw chunks of ice break off and fall into the water!ImageImageThe blue colour of the ice is incredible!ImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageThe Perito Moreno Glacier is one of only three glaciers in Patagonia glaciers that is still growing.  Apparently it grows at a rate of 2 meters per day!  The part of the ice that sticks out above the water is between 60 to 74 meters high!  In total the glacier has an ice depth of 170m!  Perito Moreno is 250 square kilometers big.ImageImageImageImage
