Shopping at Mercado Medellin in Mexico City

image

Exploring local fruit and vegetable  markets are always fun and it gives you a sense of what local people use to make their home cooked food. The Mercado Medellin is just a few blocks away from our hostel in Mexico City. Dirk and I went to the market to buy pizza toppings for Dirk’s legendary pizza night. Dirk bought me beautiful flowers at the market.

No market trip is complete without freshly squeezed juice. We tried a mix between watermelon and strawberry. Yum! Here’s Dirk at the juice bar:

A glimpse of the overall market:

The heaps of icecream-like food is ‘mole’; you it eat warm like a gravy with chicken and rice. It is made from chili and chocolate and more strange ingredients:

Chilis anyone?

Look at this weird white vegetable:

The pineapples are larger than the watermelons!?

Habanero chilis. They’re small, but dangerous:

These hairy looking fruit are actually similar to litchis!
